Exciting new classes are launching this February in locations in Trim & Navan, Co. Meath. Traid Cultúr classes are aimed at introducing the rich culture of Ireland to children in a fun and engaging way through a series of games and exercises. Classes are for children, ages 4 and up, with no previous experience in music or dance required. The course has been developed and is taught by Mark Hennessey, a former lecturer in Visual Music at Trinity College Dublin who has also previously toured as both a musician and dancer with several international productions worldwide including Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance.
Areas covered in the 10 week terms include fundamentals of music theory (including how to read sheet music), as well as a general introduction to Irish instrumentation, tunes and rhythms. The class also covers a basic introduction to Irish dancing covering basic moves and some fun ceilí dances as well as exposing them to music by some of the amazing trad musicians the country has to offer.
The classes is a fantastic pre-instrumental class that playfully blends together several elements of Irish music, dance and culture in a fun, and engaging manner. Classes are available in Trim GAA Club on Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons in both Ard Ri CNS and Scoil Mhuire in Navan. For more information on schedule click here.
Traid Cultúr classes are a fantastic opportunity to introduce your child to several aspects of Irish culture and will give them a taste of music and dance in a fun and entertaining way. Places are strictly limited so early booking is essential. (For those budding dancers of a slightly older age, Mark also teaches Irish Dance Bootcamp classes in Navan for parents who fancy learning a few one-two-threes to get a bit of exercise for themselves in a fun and social way).

He has been teaching Irish dancing in the Trim and Navan area for almost 10 years where his pupils regularly perform in feiseanna (competitions), charity events and most recently performed with Riverdance in Croke Park for Pope Francis at the Celebration of Families. Mark is fully garda vetted and a registered teacher with An Coimisiun Le Rince Gaelacha.
